New York Marathon

On Nov.5, 2000 the weather in NY was in the 30s with a stiff north wind. 30,000 runners, including, me were going to be tested.

At 6a.m my coach (Diane) put me on a bus for Fort Wadsworth at the base of the Verrazano Bridge

The runners buses started to arrive about 6:15A.M some 4 hrs and 15 minutes before start

It was cold and windy. Runners were deciding what stuff to forward to the end of the race

Stretching before the race

My new friend Roger from Belgium. He is 76 years young and has been running since he was 14

UPS cloths turn in at 10:50a.m

Lining up according to bib number. The starting line is about a half mile away. Its 10:30a.m

10:49a.m, one minute before the start. Find me?

The race has started but I have not reached the starting line yet.

Its cold and slippery at one of a dozen water stops

Can you find me?

My coach joins me at the 10 mile mark

14 mile mark approaching the Queensborough bridge. Leaving Queens and going into Manhattan

Coming up First Avenue in Manhattan. My coach is still with me.

Still going. NO PAIN

Okay, Now I feel pain. A lot of pain.

Almost there.

The lead runner finished 3 hours ago. I think I beat Roger though. 5:19:55

My cheering squad.
